Strive For Consistency - Motivation is conditional!

MissionPossibleLife

It might sound crazy coming from someone that has motivational speaker as one aspect of the work I do. In all reality how many of us have heard a speaker or read a quote , which really touched a part of us. To end up doing nothing more than liking, sharing, or talking about it very briefly. This is why I feel motivation is something that is sold to us, something shining that quickly distracts us. Motivation is conditional! Consistency and commitment on the other hand become a system we can use to obtain our objectives in life. I would say goal, but I feel goals are something to stay away from. If we are only goal focused. It is hard to be grateful for the steps and commitment it takes to achieve any form of success in our lives. A goal is a destination that one can obsess over.

Why is motivation conditional? Just look at the beginning of the year with all the New Year resolutions made to live a healthier lifestyle. Gym's have made fortunes in memberships because of highly motivated people. 80% of people who sign up for gym memberships stop using them after 5 months. I ask you to evaluate your own life in areas that you were extremely motivated. Are you someone that has found out that once the motivation left the idea left with it.

Commitment and consistency on the other hand is the antithesis of motivation. If you are someone that has "sign the deal with yourself" as my favorite basketball player Kobe would say. There is no need to seek motivation to get the job done. The crazy part is if we applied consistency to many motivational quotes these quotes would become a way of life. I believe in finding healthy habits that open us up to the world around us. When we are in a calm state and have the ability to make clear decisions we become the author's of our own story.

I don't know anywhere in life that reactiveness is something that benefits us. When we can respond we are in complete control of the direction of our lives. Viktor Frankl says it best “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.” I have added this quote to remind us all that consistency is a choice, commitment is a choice, motivation is not.
